Sheikh Nasser Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah (1948–2020) was Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence of Kuwait and for many years the head of the Amiri Diwan of Kuwait.
In December 2020, the Arab world came together to mourn the loss of Sheikh Nasser Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah. In the wake of his passing, Sheikh Nasser’s family were unsure of who to turn to create a legacy brand in both English and Arabic.
This was a senstive situation and they needed to find someone they felt they could trust. They were aprensive about approaching outside agencies due to the senstive information and felt they needed to work with someone in person to deliver the project.
The journey began with the creation of a comprehensive brand style guide for Sheikh Nasser. Understanding the importance of visual consistency in storytelling, I meticulously crafted the guide to serve as a compass for the future portrayal of Sheikh Nasser’s rich legacy.
Drawing from the original work of artist and architect Farid Abdal, the logo was digitally reimagined. This involved creative exploration on the iPad, and after several iterations, the design was perfected. This pivotal step set the stage for the entire branding journey, capturing the essence of Sheikh Nasser’s unique identity.
Aligned on the level of detail for each chapter, we then proceeded to create a detailed site map, outlining the structure of the website. This collaborative approach laid the foundation for a digital platform that would authentically reflect Sheikh Nasser’s profound impact and enduring legacy.
The task at hand was to design and build the English website as the initial step. Once the English website was signed off, the focus shifted to creating a fully immersive Arabic version. Recognising the significance of this endeavor, Sheikh Nasser’s dedicated assistant Loulwa Al Naama flew over from Kuwait to London to provide invaluable support in building the Arabic site.
The content requirements for the Arabic website were extensive, surpassing those of the English counterpart. In addition to capturing the intricacies of Sheikh Nasser’s multifaceted life, the Arabic site featured heartfelt tributes from world leaders who had been profoundly touched by his remarkable legacy.
I still work with The Royal Family of Kuwait to this day and it’s an honour to still be part of this journey. The platforms we built together ensure that Sheikh Nasser’s legacy and the impact he had are an accurate account of the remarkable life he lived.
